CHRISTMAS STOCKING - GRAPHIC BOTANICAL

$55.00 - Sold out

A European tradition that was prevalent in the midwest where I grew up is that of the arrival of St. Nicholas in early December. The legendary saint and bishop from 4th Century Greece developed a reputation for gift-giving by putting coins into other people's shoes, which accounts for many of today's Christmas traditions that involve leaving gifts in stockings, shoes or boots. Traditionally, St Nick visited on December 6th, and we hung our stockings on the fireplace mantel, awaiting small toys, candy, fruit and nuts... and occasionally the lump of coal, which forewarned us to be on best behavior, or else be placed on Santa's "naughty list".
Nowadays, stockings are part of Christmas decor throughout the season and can be hung practically anywhere - from mantles to staircase bannisters, or even on the wall.
